This depends on the electricity usage of your household. A large, six bedroom house will obviously use much more electricity than a one bedroom bungalow. So, the more electricity you use, the more solar panels you’ll need. Here’s a rough estimate of how many solar panels will be enough for your electricity usage:
Household Size | Annual Electricity Usage | Number of Solar Panels |
---|---|---|
1 person | 850kWh | 4 |
2 people | 1,700kWh | 8 |
3 people | 2,550kWh | 12 |
4 people | 3,400kWh | 16 |
Above is just an estimation. However, to get a more accurate idea, you’ll need to follow a bit of maths. This is not something too complicated, so don’t worry. Here’s what you need to do:
- Calculate the daily electricity usage in your house
- Work out the daily sunshine hours you get on average
- Using the sunshine hours, calculate the daily electricity output from the solar panels
- Divide the electricity output of the solar panels by the daily usage
